ALBANY, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) — Local governments in New York collected a total of $11.9 billion in sales tax during the first six months of 2025. According to a report released by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli on Wednesday, that's a 3.7% spike, or $423 million more, over the same period last year.

The increase in collections benefits local budgets, as New York's counties, cities, towns, and villages use local sales tax revenues to fund important community services. But DiNapoli cautioned that the future would be less predictable because of federal policy changes and inflation.

"Local officials should continue to take advantage of all the financial tools and guidance my office has to offer to help them strengthen their finances and resiliency amid these uncertain times,” DiNapoli warned.
