State economists warned that Colorado faces a nearly $1 billion shortfall in the budget for 2025-26, attributing that deficit to the federal tax overhaul signed into law by President Donald Trump.

The federal budget included a slew of extended and expanded tax cuts for individuals and corporations, which some analyses said would decrease the federal revenue by trillions over a decade but also spur economic growth.

State analysts said the federal budget also shifted a host of costs and fiscal responsibilities to the states.
