DALLAS — Texas Republicans finally released their initial draft of the state’s new congressional districts.
So, we asked the chair of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, state Rep. Gene Wu, D-Houston, if the new map is as terrible as Democrats thought it would be.
“We knew that it was going to be bad. We had no idea it would be this bad,” the Houston Democrat told us on Inside Texas Politics .
As part of an effort to maintain the GOP’s slim majority in the U.S. House in 2026, President Donald Trump said five new Republican-held congressional seats could be created in Texas by simply redrawing the map. And the new districts released by the Texas GOP attempt to do just that, targeting Democratic districts in North Texas, South Texas, Houston and Austin.
