Statesville will have a new mayor for the first time since 2005 after the November election. Current Mayor Costi Kutteh announced he wouldn’t run for another term in office earlier this year.

Five people are vying to replace him this fall: Doug Hendrix, William Morgan, Brian Summers, Kimberly Wasson and Roseta Williams.

Meet the candidates below.

Kimberly Wasson

Wasson looks to make the step into the mayor’s office after one term as an at-large member of the Statesville City Council.

“As a mother, grandmother, small business owner and active member of this community, I have worked hard to serve our residents with integrity and compassion,” Wasson said in her campaign announcement. “Now, I’m ready to take that service to the next level as your next mayor.”
