(NewsNation) — Gov. Mike DeWine has urged Ohio's Casino Control Commission to remove all prop bets from the list of legally approved wagers allowed under the state's contractual rules for operators.
His request follows Major League Baseball's announcement that it placed two Cleveland Guardians pitchers on leave as part of a “sports betting investigation.”
DeWine said he also plans to ask the commissioners and players’ unions of the six major U.S. sports leagues to support a national ban on prop betting.
In a statement, he cited growing concerns about "micro prop bets — prop bets on highly specific events" in games that can be controlled by a single player.
“The evidence that prop betting is harming athletics in Ohio is reaching critical mass," DeWine said. “The harm to athletes and the
