Is California's embattled high-speed rail project finally coming to the Bay Area?

The railway project connecting San Francisco to Los Angles was approved by voters back in 2008, but ballooning costs and setbacks have caused major delays.

A 171-mile stretch is currently under construction in the Central Valley. Gov. Gavin Newsom's office said the project is close to entering the "track laying phase."

Now, there's a push to start construction in Gilroy, connecting to the Caltrain station there. However, development all hinges on state lawmakers approving billions of dollars in funding.

Another blow for the project came earlier this month when President Trump said he's pulling $4 billion in federal funding.
