CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles is proposing several reforms to improve city council operations and rebuild public trust following months of controversy that have tested confidence in local government.
WCNC Charlotte obtained the letter sent to council members. Lyles outlined specific changes to meeting procedures and council rules, citing the need to address "issues and concerns raised" about the governing body's effectiveness and transparency.
"I think we can all agree that the past several months have been challenging and that the public’s trust in this body has been tested," Lyles wrote. "We all owe it to each other and our community to finish our current terms the best way we can."
