CLEVELAND, Ohio — Major League Baseball is trading the crack of the bat for the roar of engines – at least for one weekend. The innovative MLB Speedway Classic between the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves represents MLB’s boldest attempt yet to expand its footprint by literally building a baseball diamond in the infield of a NASCAR track.
“They’ve built a whole ballpark,” explained cleveland.com Guardians beat reporter Joe Noga on the latest Cleveland Baseball Talk Podcast . “They’re playing a major league game on a NASCAR track with more fans than ever watching a baseball game in one place in recorded history.”
The game airs at 7:15 p.m. Saturday on FOX.
