WASHINGTON — After weeks of debate , lots of back and forth with the Commanders and two public hearings , the DC Council voted Friday in favor of the RFK Stadium deal proposed by Council Chair Phil Mendelson.

The vote authorizes the use of $1.1 billion in taxpayer money included in the $3.7 billion deal to bring the Washington Commanders back to the District.

Friday's first vote on the deal was 9-3 in favor of a new stadium at the RFK site ─ with Councilmembers Brianne Nadeau, Matt Frumin and Robert White as the three "no" votes.

Mayor Muriel Bowser first made the announcement that a deal had been reached to use part of the 180 acres of RFK campus under D.C. control to build a new stadium for the Commanders alongside team owner Josh Harris and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell
