When her paternal grandmother died in a car accident in 1962, the then five-year-old Deborah Price knew nothing about the unfinished quilt she left behind.
It resurfaced, briefly, after her paternal grandfather’s death 30 years later when kin cleaned out the farmhouse near Karnes City, Texas. That’s when Price’s mom discovered the quilt top stored in a closet with antique glass Christmas ornaments.
Grandma Minnie Huth — pronounced like “Ruth” — quilted by collecting print and solid color remnants of well worn dresses, aprons and shirts. From that stash, she began creating what would become her final quilt top of 20 unique squares arranged in a rectangle, four squares wide and five squares long.
