ANDERSON, S.C. (WSPA) - Looking to save money while also reaping the benefits of doing back-to-school shopping? Fortunately, Friday marked the beginning of South Carolina's tax-free weekend.

Parents and teachers said that while the back-to-school season can be stressful, tax-free weekends make it easier to pay for school essentials.

For three days, the South Carolina Department of Revenue said items like school supplies, clothes, electronics and dorm-room necessities can be bought without paying the state’s 6% sales tax.

Walmart shoppers are taking advantage of the deals.

“As a mom, I'm really thankful to shop for my boys. We got some bean bags and other things,” said Heather Hollar.

As a mother and teacher, Hollar knows first-hand that getting back-to-school items can be costly.
