Luka Doncic has committed to the Los Angeles Lakers with a three-year contract extension. Shams Charania of ESPN reports that Doncic and the Lakers have agreed to the deal with a player option in 2028. It’s a maximum extension worth $165 million.

Doncic previously had a player option for 2026-27, meaning that he could have chosen to become a free agent after the conclusion of the upcoming 2025-26 season. This new extension takes that possibility off of the table.

The last year of the new extension also has a player option. Doncic could opt out in the summer of 2028, making him eligible to sign a new deal with the Lakers for 35% of the salary cap.
