PORTSMOUTH, Va. — From start to finish, the 68th Eastern Amateur belonged to Jake Albert. The Auburn-bound freshman from Blacksburg set the tone on Wednesday with a blistering course-record 10-under-par 60 at Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club in Portsmouth and never looked back, following up with rounds of 66, 64 and 71 to finish at 19-under 261 — good for a five-stroke victory in one of the country’s most prestigious amateur events.

Despite opening his final round with a double bogey and bogey, Albert steadied himself with a clutch 15-foot par putt on the fourth hole and cruised the rest of the way. Louisville sophomore Clay Pendergrass (68) and Toledo junior Solomon Petrie (72) tied for runner-up honors at 14 under. Elon’s Landon Durham placed fourth at 13 under.
