SANDY CREEK TWP., Pa. (WKBN) - A man from Coalport drowned Friday in the Allegheny River after he was caught up in a current.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, emergency crews were called just before 5 p.m. Friday to the area of River Drive in Sandy Creek Township on reports of a man in the Allegheny River.

Witnesses said they saw the man go into the water, and they tried to help, but said he went farther into the water and was taken by the current and never resurfaced.

Fire and EMS tried to resuscitate the victim, but were unsuccessful, according to the police report.

The Venango County coroner identified the victim as Jerin Hutton, 18, of Coalport, Pa. The cause of death was determined to be accidental drowning.
