Police have released a statement after a woman's body has been found below the cliffs near Whitby - it is the fourth to be found in the area in three days.

The tragic discovery was confirmed by the North Yorkshire Police coastal team. The woman's body was located at Sandsend, near Whitby.

The woman, a local resident in her 50s, was found at 11.01am by a member of the public who alerted emergency services, reports Yorkshire Live .

Her death follows that of a man and a woman, believed to be in their 40s, who died after falling from the cliffs at Whitby on July 30, and another woman, in her 60s, who was found near the cliffs by the pavilion on July 31.
