A missing U.S. Navy sailor who’s believed to have gone overboard on the USS George Washington has been identified.

Search and rescue crews searched the Timor Sea near Australia for more than 45 hours and covered roughly 2,200 square miles, but were unable to locate him.

What we know:

The sailor has been identified as Airman Jose Antonio Rivera Lynch IV. Rivera Lynch, of Middleburg, Florida, enlisted in the Navy in June of 2024 and reported to USS George Washington in January.
