A ferry operated by Harbour Cruises Ltd. struck a rock near Point Atkinson off West Vancouver on Sunday morning, prompting a mayday call. The incident involved the Harbour Princess, which was carrying 58 passengers at the time. The ferry hit a rock in Starboat Cove, leading to a distress call that was issued at 11:23 a.m.

Emergency services quickly responded, with the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 1 taking the lead. The Canadian Coast Guard hovercraft Siyay also participated in the response. At the time of the incident, the tide was eight feet and rising, while the low tide that day was recorded at four and a half feet.

Fortunately, the vessel did not take on water. It was escorted back to its berth at Coal Harbour, where passengers were safely off-loaded. Reports indicate that two passengers sustained injuries during the incident.

The Harbour Princess is noted as Harbour Cruises' most modern vessel. It features dining seating for 180 guests across two interior decks. The ferry measures 150 feet in length and has the capacity to accommodate up to 275 standing guests.
