This season, Robert Addicott and his Glendale Prep football staff should finally be able to coach outside the box.

Since moving up to 11-man football in 2016 the Griffins were boxed in strategically by low numbers or a lack of experience — often both.

The academically focused charter school actually had more players (30) entering August last year than this season (24). But it did not have 10 seniors, most of whom will be third or fourth-year varsity starters.

“We started to be that last year, but this year I think we’re a true varsity program,” Addicott said. “This year there’s a little more pressure on them to win.”

Even though the Griffins have not reached the 2A playoffs since 2020. Getting back in is not the end goal, only a step along the way for these seniors.
