The primary for the City Council District 1 election is not until next June, but last Thursday, a milestone in the Eastside race was reached: Candidates filed campaign finance documents for the first six months of 2025.

Incumbent Eunisses Hernandez -- whose district includes Cypress Park, Highland Park, Glassell Park and other communities -- has raised the most money, surpassing ex-council aide Sylvia Robledo and former Red Cross executive Raul Claros . A City Ethics Commission dashboard does not show reports for Elaine Alaniz and Jesus Jesse Rosas. A sixth candidate, Lou Calanche , entered the race after the June 30 fundraising period.
