Ayanna Puryear, a nurse practitioner, was at a dog-grooming appointment with Bentley, her seven-year-old shitzu-poodle, when she and the groomer began discussing the pet-styling industry.

Conversation led to inspiration, and a new business concept was born.

This fall in Uptown Charlotte, Puryear will open Clip, an all-inclusive grooming studio for independent pet groomers.

Puryear is currently renovating an 810-square-foot space at 810 East 7th Street, Suite 111, to accommodate multiple groomers and several kinds of pets, including dogs and cats.

Her business model mirrors the popular salon suites concept, where stylists pay a recurring fee in exchange for a managed space, tools and products needed to service their clients — without taking on the full strain of a brick-and-mortar. Clip
