WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) - The New York State Department of Transportation is telling drivers to drive with caution in work areas.

Last week, a NYSDOT employee was waiting for their turn to be flagged through a work zone on State Route 37 in Jefferson County.

A tractor-trailer was allegedly traveling too fast and not paying attention. According to the social media post from the State's DOT Facebook, the truck slammed into the back of their vehicle, pushing it completely off the road.

Vehicle damage was severe, but the NYSDOT worker walked away. No one else was injured in the crash.

DOT officials added that the crash was avoidable and that drivers need to slow down, move over, and pay attention. Drivers are reminded that speed and distractions are a deadly mix.
