When Davis Thompson rolled in a 47-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole at Sedgefield Country Club on Sunday, he first pumped and let out a quick celebratory yell. The birdie didn’t put a dent in Cameron Young’s big lead at the Wyndham Championship — he went on to win by six — but it moved Thompson from 71st in the FedEx Cup Playoff standings to inside the top 70 with three holes to play.
