A NJ Path train fire broke out on Monday, August 4th around 6:15am at Newport Station in Jersey City.
The event particularly impacted routes between Midtown Manhattan and Jersey City, as well as the World Trade Center and Hoboken. Service was delayed on two lines for roughly 5 hours, per The New York Times .
According to viral footage circulating social media, passengers were inside the train car as smoke began to rise, and they rushed to get onto the platform to safety. Officials revealed that 13 commuters were treated for smoke inhalation.
