ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police have released the body-worn camera footage from a deadly shooting on July 31 where police say their officers shot a suspect in his 30s in the 19th Ward.

Police say on July 31, they got multiple calls reporting a suspicious man near Ernestine Street, who they say tried to break into some cars.

At around 7:36 p.m. they found the man, identified as 38-year-old Akintunde Campbell, in the area of Ernestine Street. Officers say they tried to stop Campbell. They also say he pulled out a handgun, and they asked him to drop it, but he didn’t.

As a result, the officers both fired at Campbell, who later died from his injuries. It’s unclear which officer’s shot hit Campbell.
