College football season is almost back, and that means it's time for some preseason polls.

On Monday, the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll was released, giving us our first look at how coaches around the country rank teams as we enter the 2025 season. Some results were expected, like Texas claiming the top spot in the rankings as the Arch Manning era is set to begin for a program that reached the College Football Playoff semifinals last season.

While many expected the Longhorns would take the top spot in the poll, there were a few teams that were ranked higher than most expected in the preseason coaches poll. Here are the five most overrated teams as we prepare for Week 0, which begins on Aug. 23 with Kansas State taking on Iowa State in a Big 12 showdown in Dublin, Ireland.

1. Ohio State Buckeyes (No. 2)

The reigning national champions were probably always going to be a preseason top-five team as they begin their title defense, but this team suffered some seismic losses. While its two best players — receiver Jeremiah Smith and safety Caleb Downs — return, this team lost a lot, including starting quarterback Will Howard, most of the starting offensive line and several key starters on defense.

There's reason to think the Buckeyes could be strong once again this fall, especially with former five-star quarterback Julian Sayin likely set to take over. And while they're likely to be a playoff contender yet again, they may not even be the favorite in the Big Ten.

2. LSU Tigers (No. 9)

Despite finishing the 2024 season unranked, coach Brian Kelly's Tigers enter 2025 as a projected top 10 team. It's certainly easy to see why: quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is back and could be one of the best passers in the nation, and he has a retooled and promising group of skill position players to help him out. The defense, which improved down the stretch last fall, added a few heavy-hitters in the transfer portal, as well.

But this team lost essentially its entire offensive line, which was one of the best in the nation a year ago, and it will be relying heavily on transfers as it looks to take a step forward in 2025. Kelly probably needs a CFP bid to restore confidence in the program, and while the potential is there, this team still has a lot of questions to be slotted in the preseason top 10.

3. Arizona State Sun Devils (No. 11)

Arizona State was the darling of college football last fall. After finishing 3-9 in 2023, the Sun Devils were picked to finish last in the Big 12 in 2024, but instead won the league with one of the most surprising turnarounds in recent memory. The Devs lost one of the major pieces from that run in running back Cam Skattebo, but the offense brings back a promising quarterback in Sam Leavitt and star receiver Jordyn Tyson.

ASU also returns quite a few of its best defensive players, so this team could be competitive once again after giving Texas a run for its money in the CFP last year. Unfortunately, the Sun Devils could be due for some regression to the mean after finishing 6-2 in one-score games last fall and losing games it shouldn't have, like it did against Cincinnati.

This is a Big 12 contender, but I'm not sure it's a borderline top-10 team as things currently stand.

4. Ole Miss Rebels (No. 15)

The Rebels had their best team on paper in more than 60 years last fall, but due to a pair of frustrating losses — which came against a 4-8 Kentucky team and on the road against a resurgent Florida squad — it missed out on a College Football Playoff bid as its win total actually dropped from 11 games to 10.

Ole Miss could be competitive again in 2025, but the title window is closed as most of the pieces from that squad are now gone. Lane Kiffin has once again gone heavy on the transfer portal, adding promising players like LSU transfers Da'Shawn Womack and Sage Ryan to a defense that already features a bona fide star in Suntarine Perkins, while the offense will turn to former backup Austin Simmons, who has impressed in brief action.

The Rebels could be solid this fall, but with all the turnover, this doesn't really look like a top-15 team, to me.

5. Indiana Hoosiers (No. 19)

Along with Arizona State, Curt Cignetti's Year 1 run at Indiana was one of the most impressive coaching jobs in recent memory as he led the Hoosiers to an 11-1 campaign and an unlikely CFP bid. The bad news is that he did so with a heavily portaled roster, bringing in quite a few stars from James Madison, and many of those players have since moved on.

Quarterback Kurtis Rourke has moved on, as well, but Indiana did land one of the top portal quarterbacks in the country (Fernando Mendoza from Cal) to replace him. Star receiver Elijah Surratt is also still here, while the Hoosiers have retooled with a handful of defensive transfers.

This team can be solid again this fall, but with everything it lost and the fact that it really benefited from its schedule last season, putting Indiana in the preseason top 25 feels a bit ambitious.
