KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Former University of Tennessee head football coach Derek Dooley announced he is running for U.S. Senate in Georgia. He joins the field as a Republican, seeking their party's nomination to challenge incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff in the 2026 general election.
In a video posted Monday morning, Dooley promised to bring "old fashioned Georgia common sense." He also praised President Donald Trump for turning campaign promises into results.

"I haven't known a president in my lifetime who's been able to achieve these kind of results," Dooley said. "That's what the people want."
