(NewsNation) — California Republican Rep. Kevin Kiley said he is going to introduce legislation that would ban states from redrawing their congressional districts in the middle of a decade.

The proposal comes as Texas Republicans are attempting to redraw new districts to elect more Republicans to the U.S. House in the upcoming midterm election.

Republicans currently hold a slim majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, and Democrats hope to leverage Americans' disapproval of the Trump administration's policies to take control of the chamber.
