MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- Journey, a malnourished puppy found last week in a plastic storage tote along a Marlboro County road, suffered injuries that were "too extreme to overcome" and was given a "compassionate and humane homecoming" on Sunday, officials said.
"It is with extremely heavy and shattered hearts that we share that Journey crossed the rainbow bridge today," the Marlboro County Humane Society said in a Facebook post. "She left this world surrounded by a team of people who may have only had the chance to love her briefly, but did so fiercely. Her final moments were filled with all the love and comfort she should have always had."
The 6- to 8-month-old female puppy was given the Journey after a good Samaritan found her while picking up trash along the roadside on Wednesd
