The San Francisco Giants head to Pennsylvania today to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in a three-game series.
Taking the mound for the Giants will be right-hander Justin Verlander, who enters today’s game with a 4.53 ERA, 4.29 FIP, with 77 strikeouts to 34 walks in 89.1 innings pitched. His last start was in the Giants’ 3-1 loss to the Pirates last Tuesday, in which he allowed one run on six hits with seven strikeouts and a walk in five innings.
He’ll be facing off against Pirates right-hander Johan Oviedo, who will be making his 2025 debut (and his first appearance since 2023). Oviedo has been recovering from Tommy John surgery, as well as a lat injury. He has had six rehab starts with the Pirates’ minor league affiliates, in which he had a 3.12 ERA with 21 strikeouts to four walks
