BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. — A Petition for Post-Conviction Relief claims Michael Dean Overstreet, now on Indiana’s Death Row for the 1997 slaying of Kelly Eckart in Johnson County, was also the killer of a Columbus woman who was murdered four months before Eckart’s killing.
Jason Hubbell, who worked at Arvin Industries with Sharon Myers, was convicted of the murder of the young mother and sentenced to 75 years in prison.
As a result of an investigation undertaken by Hubbell from behind prison walls and the Exoneration Justice Clinic at the Notre Dame Law School, the convicted man and his attorneys claim a wealth of evidence pointing to Overstreet as Myers’ killer was ignored by Columbus Police or withheld from trial defense lawyers.
