SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Notre Dame is now just 27 days away from its regular season opener at Miami, and today the Irish received a top five ranking.

The Fighting Irish were slotted into the No. 5 spot in the first edition of the USA Today Coaches Poll . It’s the first official poll of the season since the Associated Press preseason poll has yet to come out.

The Irish are right behind Georgia at No. 4 and in front of Clemson at No. 6. They were the only team in the top six to not receive a vote for first place though.

Notre Dame plays three teams in the top 25 this season: Miami (No. 10), Texas A&M at No. 21) and Boise State (No. 25).
