As students in Montgomery Public Schools head back to class, Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed discussed the new school year.

In an address to the city, Reed spoke about the importance of consistent attendance, not just for the first day but also for the whole year.

He said he spoke with new school Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd earlier this summer about several challenges in the system.

“We need for our young people in our school system to get off on the right track, to get off on the right step for this year and the first day certainly matters and we plan to be out there,” Reed said in his speech.
