A woman died after being attacked and mauled by a large pack of stray dogs near a San Bernardino park on Thursday, July 31, police said.

The incident was first reported about 5 p.m. in a wash area adjacent to a homeless encampment near Perris Hill Park, in the 1100 block of East Highland Avenue, according to San Bernardino Police Department Sgt. Chris Gray.

A 51-year-old woman was found to have been bitten multiple times by the dogs, he said. The pack was believed to have included 14 animals.

She was taken to a hospital, where she soon died from her injuries.

San Bernardino County coroner's officials identified the victim as Teodora Mendoza, 51, of San Bernardino.
