AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Monday was the first day of high school football practice for teams throughout the State of Texas, and the Caprock Longhorns hit the ground running.

“This is what we’ve been waiting on,” senior running back/safety Xavier Vargas said. “We’ve been quarantined from the game for so long and these boys are just hungry and it just feels amazing.”

The Longhorns are entering year three under head coach Rowdy Freeman, and despite improving on their win total last year, Freeman thinks this year’s team has the talent and togetherness to take them even further.

“This group of guys, they enjoy being around one another,” Freeman said. “They love each other. They hold each other accountable. They spend time away from the field with one another. I have no doubt that they’ll bat
