A new brewery is planning to open soon in downtown Newton.
Brookrise Brewing is planning a soft opening on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the site of a former firehouse that was turned into a brewery.
Shane Vine is leading the new brewery. Vine, a Charlotte native, has experience as a brewer in Texas and Colorado, he said.
Vine took over the space at 116 W. A St., which was previously used by D9 Brewing and other collaborators known under the collective Community Brewing Ventures and later Bevana.
The opening of that brewery and taproom was celebrated in 2021, but Cornelius-based D9 filed for bankruptcy in 2024 and the taproom closed, leaving a space primed for a brewery.
