GREEN BAY – After a fierce start to training camp, Nate Hobbs is not expected to step back onto the field until Week 1 of the regular season.

The Green Bay Packers cornerback had knee surgery, coach Matt LaFleur said Aug. 5. A source told PackersNews that Hobbs’ surgery was to repair a partial tear in his meniscus, and that he is expected to miss four weeks. With his surgery coming five weeks before the Packers host the Detroit Lions in their Week 1 showdown at Lambeau Field, Hobbs is on track to be available for the opener.

LaFleur declined to put a timetable on Hobbs’ return.

“Unfortunately, he had to have something cleaned up,” LaFleur said. “We’re hoping to get him back here sooner than later.”
