A two-year effort to get San Tan Valley incorporated reaches the finish line on Tuesday, when residents go to the polls to decide the issue.

Early voting for residents who live within the proposed incorporation-area borders began July 9. Early voting locations will stay open until 7 p.m. Friday, the last day of in-person voting.

The group San Tan Valley Inc. has led the attempt to incorporate the region, which is home to an estimated 100,000 people in Pinal County.

“Our argument is you have a bigger government right now in Pinal County because the area is the size of Connecticut. It’s a huge area they have to manage,” said Tyler Hudgins, chairman of San Tan Valley Inc. “What incorporation will do is bring government down close to the people — more local focus on this area.”
