Allison Grigsby Sweatman, a former president of the Young Democrats of Arkansas, announced her candidacy for the Arkansas Senate on Tuesday.

A clinical social worker by trade, Sweatman is seeking the 2026 Democratic nomination for Arkansas Senate District 13, which covers parts of North Little Rock, Sherwood, Jacksonville and Maumelle. The seat is currently held by Sen. Jane English (R-North Little Rock), who’s been in the Senate since 2013 but is term limited in 2026.

The open seat could make for a more competitive race than usual. At least two Republicans have said they’ll seek their party’s nomination for District 13 — state Rep. Brandon Achor (R-Maumelle) and Mischa Martin, an attorney and former Arkansas Department of Human Services official.
