The FBI's recent report revealed a decrease in violent crime across the U.S. in 2024, including reductions in property crime, murders, and robberies. However, the report noted an increase in officers shot in the line of duty.
The data was released Tuesday as part of the "Reported Crimes in the Nation" statistics, which compiles information from local law enforcement agencies submitted to the FBI's federal system.
Across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana, 11 officers were killed last year. Nationwide, the total number of officers killed was 64.
The FBI acknowledged the decrease in violent crimes but is actively investigating the cause of the recent rise in assaults on officers.
