NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Nashville man sentenced to death for the murders of three people back in 1988 has seen his sentence carried out.

Byron Black was convicted of three counts of murder in the killings of Angela, Lakeisha, and Latoya Clay, while on work release for a separate incident involving Angela’s husband.

The execution did not happen without a legal battle, with months of court hearings surrounding Black’s internal heart defibrillator, which his attorneys argued would lead to a torturous execution. The Tennessee Supreme Court ultimately decided his device did not have to be shut off before his execution.
