Athens-Clarke County, the surrounding area, and much of north Georgia are under a flood watch through Wednesday evening. According to the National Weather Service, scattered to numerous showers will result in locally heavy rainfall to portions of the area through tonight.
Forecasters say one to two inches of rain with isolated higher amounts could lead to localized flash flooding through Wednesday morning. Some thunderstorms are also possible.
The Athens-Clarke County government has issued a river flood watch for the North Oconee River at College Avenue Bridge and other riverside areas.
