Francis Ford Coppola is feeling "well" after being hospitalized in Italy.
After reports of his hospitalization emerged, the 86-year-old Oscar-winning filmmaker took to Instagram to reassure fans of his wellbeing on Aug. 5.
"Da Dada (what my kids call me) is fine, taking an opportunity while in Rome to do the update of my 30 year old afib procedure with its inventor, a great Italian doctor - Dr. Andrea Natale! I am well!" Coppola wrote in the caption of a post.
Before Coppola shared this update, a source close to Coppola told USA TODAY on Aug. 5 that he'd had met with a cardiologist who specializes in electrophysiology, which primarily treats arrhythmias of the heart, "for a scheduled update procedure" with his doctor of more than 30 years.
USA TODAY reached out to Coppola's representatives for comment.
In July, the "Megalopolis" director spoke during the Magna Græcia Film Festival in Soverato, southern Italy, according to social media posts by the festival.
A July 15 post shared by the now-former president of the Calabria region and its official tourism page claimed the "Apocalypse Now" filmmaker had been in the area scouting locations for an upcoming movie.
As "The Godfather" mastermind gears up for his next project, he recently reflected on his long career in Hollywood and the pride he holds for his family of prolific creatives.
"I lost my wife a year ago, around this time. But my attitude for death is that I always lived my life so that when I was at the moment approaching death, I wouldn’t say, 'Oh, I wish I had done this and I wish I had done that,'" Coppola told the audience at a San Francisco screening of "Megalopolis" on Aug. 1, according to local news outlet SFGate. "Instead, I say to myself, 'I got to do this.'"
His wife of more than 60 years, Emmy-winning filmmaker Eleanor Coppola, died at 87 in her Rutherford, California, home in April 2024.
"I got to see my daughter (Sofia Coppola) win an Oscar. I got to see my father (composer Carmine Coppola) win an Oscar. I’m going to be so busy saying all the things I got to do that when I die, I’m not going to notice it" he continued, per SFGate. "When I die, I’m not going to notice it. You know how your electric toothbrush just shuts off when you least expect it? That’s what death is like."
