ELLIJAY, Ga. — For north Georgia mushroom farmer Howard Berk, politics is intertwined with the soil.

The earth provides the fuel for his crop to grow; elected leaders help plant the seeds of his community's growth.

Berk, the co-founder and 'Chief Mushroom Officer' of Ellijay Mushrooms , shared his journey and his perspective with 11Alive's Sunday politics show The Georgia Vote in this week's Voice of the Voter.

When Howard Berk tells people he's a farmer, it's not what most people picture.

"They're like, 'Do you have cows? Do you have goats?' But never is the question, 'Oh you're a mushroom farmer,'" he said.
