About one-third of adults under 30 identify as independents with no party leaning, and only 2 in 10 follow politics "extremely" or "very" closely.

Political disengagement is even higher among young women and teens, though youth voter turnout spiked in the 2020 and 2024 elections.

WASHINGTON - A new poll reveals that young adults are less engaged with U.S. politics than older Americans and are less likely to say voting is important.

The poll, which was conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, surveyed more than 1,400 adults between July 10-14.
