Former Louisville Metro Police detective Brett Hankison is appealing his conviction and sentence related to his involvement in the police raid that killed Breonna Taylor, according to court records.
In a notice of appeal filed Aug. 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, Hankison's attorneys informed the court that they are appealing "both the conviction and the sentence imposed in this case." Hankison was convicted of violating Taylor's civil rights in November and sentenced to 33 months in prison in July .
Hankison's attorneys did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
