Is George Kittle considering retirement?

Well, not really, but the 49ers tight end did tell NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo that he’s not thrilled with the NFL’s recent ban of smelling salts.

“I considered retirement,” Kittle said jokingly Tuesday at 49ers training camp. “We have to figure out a middle ground.”

The six-time Pro Bowl selection also admitted that he uses the smelling salts, also known as ammonia inhalants, every drive.

So, what do smelling salts do exactly? According to the National Library of Medicine , “Smelling salts are used to arouse consciousness because the release of ammonia (NH 3 ) gas that accompanies their use irritates the membranes of the nose and lungs, and thereby triggers an inhalation reflex.”
