A federal jury convicted former NFL running back LeShon Johnson on six felony counts for his role in operating a large-scale dogfighting ring from his property near Broken Arrow.

The verdict was delivered Friday in Muskogee following more than eight hours of jury deliberations between Thursday and Friday. Johnson, 54, was found guilty of violating multiple provisions of the federal Animal Welfare Act, including possessing, selling, transporting, and delivering animals for fighting ventures.

Prosecutors said Johnson ran the illegal operation under the name “Mal Kant Kennels,” where he bred and sold fighting dogs and their offspring.
