The new crossing to Kenilworth Castle will take a year to install once the plans and funding are all signed off.
Kenilworth Town Council has been working on the link to the town's main tourist attraction over a number of months, running a public consultation earlier this year on the scheme.
A preferred location - near the ford on Castle Road - has been chosen and an application for funding put forward.
English Heritage will sort the paths from the crossing to the castle and has already had permission for a series of tree works in the area approved by Warwick District Council.
At the most recent town council meeting, Cllr Alan Chalmers provided an update.
