Since invasive quagga mussels were discovered in the Snake River near Twin Falls in 2023, Idaho has mounted an aggressive campaign against the species, which threaten to wreak havoc on the state’s waterways.
In October, the state released a second round of copper chemicals into the river near Twin Falls after the first round in 2023 reduced but did not eliminate the mussel population in the area, the Express previously reported . Now, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture has promising news about the results of that second treatment.
The agency announced last week that none of the 200 samples it has collected from the infested area of the river this summer have turned up positive for viable quagga mussels.
However, the agency cautioned that the results are still early.
