The city’s Health Department announced Tuesday a third person has died as part of a growing cluster of Legionnaires’ disease cases in central Harlem.

As of Aug. 5, health officials have identified 67 cases of the disease since July 25 across five ZIP codes: 10027, 10030, 10035, 10037 and 10039.

DOH Acting Health Commissioner and Chief Medical Officer Michelle Morse said the city has tested 43 cooling towers in the affected area, with 11 initially testing positive for Legionella pneumophila, the bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ disease. The Health Department says all 11 have since been remediated.

Officials with the DOH said the city’s water systems are not contaminated.
